Balsam Does Not Bloom – Urgently Change The Conditions Of Detention And Care

Balsam is an unpretentious indoor plant, but with improper care, it can drop buds, or not release them at all. We will look at the main reasons why the balsam does not bloom, and how to solve this problem without the help of specialists.

General characteristics of the plant

Balsam is a houseplant belonging to the Balsamin family (lat. Balsaminaceae). It is completely undemanding, so it is a pleasure to take care of it.

This flower grows quite lush and large, up to 60 cm in height. Its distinctive feature is water droplets along the edges of the leaves, which are formed in the process of evaporation of excess moisture. The plant is characterized as very fragile and brittle – at the slightest touch, its fruits crack and the seeds scatter.

The flowers of the plant are small – about 4 cm in diameter. Their color is quite diverse: it can be completely white, slightly with a pink tint, or yellow. The leaves are green, have the correct shape.

The impact of improper care on the flowering of balsam

Under favorable conditions, this culture blooms well and profusely. But the plant may not release buds at all, or they may be small and rare. Consider the reasons for the poor flowering of balsam.

Insufficient lighting

Lack of lighting is one of the reasons for poor flowering, or its absence. In conditions of constant shading, the development of a plant slows down, and it can fall asleep – and not give buds, or shed those already available due to a lack of elements obtained in the process of photosynthesis.

To solve the problem, you need to move the flower to a well-lit place. If there is not enough sun, use additional lighting with artificial light sources.

Frequent movement

For growing balsam, it is better to immediately find a suitable place. If you often move the pot from one place to another, flowering may move in time, or even stop.

This plant is not even advised to move. If he does not like the new place, he can react very painfully.

Non-compliance with the temperature regime

For a flower, the optimum temperature is 20-22 degrees Celsius in summer, and not lower than 15 degrees Celsius in winter. In case of violation of the temperature regime, the buds do not bloom and fall off. Often flower growers encounter such a problem with sudden changes in temperature, or drafts.

Humidity level

For the full development of the plant, it is recommended to spray it regularly. It is very important that water does not get on the flowers, otherwise they may begin to rot and fall off.

In the summer, take the balsam outside, but avoid exposure to direct sunlight. In winter, keep the plant away from heaters, as they dry the air a lot and interfere with maintaining a normal temperature regime.

Wrong watering

Regular watering is important for a flower, but waterlogging and waterlogging of the soil should not be allowed – the root system will rot, and the plant will stop blooming, or even die.

Use drainage to avoid overflow. Water the balsam only, when necessary, when the soil dries out. For irrigation, use settled water at room temperature. When watering, water should not fall on the flower stalks.

Pests and diseases of balsam

Flowering may stop due to the appearance of pests, such as whiteflies, or spider mites. Insects feed on plant sap, and cause disturbances in metabolic processes. If a tick is found, use: Apollo, Flumite, Sunmite, Neoron, Ortus. From the whitefly: Aplaud, Tanrek, Teppeki.

Of the diseases, the development of gray rot is possible with an excess of moisture. When the first traces are found and for prevention, Zircon, Fundazol, Topsin-M, Bayleton’s solution can be used.

Wrong pot size

The flowering process also depends on the chosen capacity. If you grow a plant in a pot that is too large, it will spend most of its energy on the growth of the root system, and if it is too small, the roots will be too densely spaced.

In both the first and second cases, flowering will be unstable, and the flowers will be small. Ideal pot 14-18 cm with loose soil.

Balsam does not bloom – we solve the problem in 4 stages

If the balsam does not bloom, this is not a reason to get rid of the flower, perhaps it can be cured, or the conditions of detention need to be changed.

Do the following:

  1. Inspect the plant for the presence of harmful insects. If found, they can be collected and destroyed, or treated with drugs.
  2. Check the flower for diseases. If suspicious spots, rotten parts, leaves with a changed color are detected, the plant may need to be treated with fungicides.
  3. If this does not help, it is better to transplant the balsam into a new soil, while examining the root for the presence of rot. In any case, the plant will receive a good shake and a new portion of air. This can help in hastening the start of flowering.
  4. We tried everything, but the balsam did not bloom – change fertilizers. Choose top dressing from a well-known and trusted manufacturer, apply it strictly according to the instructions. If the plant is overfed, it may not bloom either – transplant it into a poorer soil. A mixture of earth with sand or peat is ideal.

If the balsam does not bloom, the reason is in the conditions of detention, or in violation of the rules for caring for the plant. Always keep an eye on the humidity level and temperature, and your flower will delight you with lush and abundant flowering.
